How Times Have Changed

I got up at 6 this morning but had 4 loads of laundry in a big mound on my table that needed to be folded and put away as well as some work to finish up so blogging just wasn’t on the priority list. Now that Jacob is awake and watching the dogs play, I have little time to get something up.

I’m thinking about starting another blog- I know! Sounds crazy since I can’t keep this one up to date some weeks. However, I want to split this blog into two blogs, basically. I want a blog solely dedicated to projects and another one that’s more personal. As I’ve been going back through posts, I was reminiscing about where I was this week two years ago and also last year.

Two years ago, I blogged about sleeping in until 9 am (my how times have changed!) and my little brother Zac had shot me point blank in the eye with a pellet gun. You’ll be happy to know that I’ve had no lingering effects from that injury. I also brought home 1,000 worms from a church event for Jim’s garden. Ew. The Rangers were going to their first World Series and this year, baseball season is over as far as I’m concerned. I’m rooting for Detroit from afar in the championship game simply because the Giants beat us two years ago.

Last year, I made my own laundry soap for the first time and I haven’t purchased a bottle of detergent since. I was pregnant and busy planning for Mr. Jacob’s arrival. That doesn’t seem like much, but it was a lot of work!

This week, I’m watching my almost 9 month old play in his saucer, have been up since 6 am getting as much done as I could before Jacob got up, not watching Rangers on TV, and Jim has basically let his garden go.

My how times have changed! But, I wouldn’t trade any of it.

This Weekend I…

This weekend, I:

  • Used 6 pounds of powdered sugar in baking 100 mini cupcakes and 24 frosted sugar cookies, among other important baking things, of course. I also had had the help of some talented ladies! Thanks girls!
  • Made 48 mini quiches- it was my first time to make quiches and I was proud of myself for achieving it. Not sure why, but they intimidated me.
  • Used 128 diapers and made a diaper cake
  • Helped host a shower for one of my best friends on Saturday. It’s her second boy, due in December. We did navy blue and orange and I themed it “Second Time Around.”
  • Got our sunroom finally cleaned up. I’m determined not to let it become a junk room, but a useful part of our home. Jacob got to spend part of the afternoon with Grandma so I could get it done.
  • Had a great group/mix of girls at my table on Sunday and we talked about a lot of good things from the sermon we heard that morning. I left encouraged and ready for the next week.
  • Went on a 3.21 mile walk with Jim and Jacob. We walked over to a friends’ house and they ended up walking most of the way back to our house. So great getting to visit with them.

There was lots more that happened, but these are the highlights. It was such a good weekend.

Friday List

Just some random updates from my life this past week…

  1. Jim and Jacob have both been sick with some congestion junk. Say a prayer that they get to feeling better and that I don’t get sick!
  2. I’m throwing a shower tomorrow for one of my best friends and I’m super excited about it. She’ll be happy to know that I asked for help and that I’m not stressing about it! I’m doing the best that I can and letting go of some things.
  3. Jacob can now give a good high five (thanks to High Five boot camp from Grandma!) and is constantly clapping…so cute.
  4. By this time last year, I already had a budget made and that meant I had planned out gifts I was going to get. What I’ve done this year? Printed out the lists to fill in.
  5. I painted a coffee mug this week! It didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted it to (I thought the ring around the circles would be darker) but hey, it’s cool!
  6. And because I can, here’s a cute picture of my sweet boy. This was taken by my Mother-In-Law while they were on a walk. She comes over on Thursdays to watch Jacob on her lunch hour while I run teach dance class!

For Now: October 2012

It’s been over a year since I’ve posted a “For Now” post. Whoa-

Book I’m currently reading: I’m not currently reading a book- I am involved in a Precepts Bible Study and have to prepare each week for a small group so I am reading, just not for “fun” really.

Something I’m saving up for: We’re still trying to pay off debt. There are few projects we need to get done around the house (fixing our burned fence and replacing our tub surround).

Something I’ve accomplished: Getting a mentor program for our college students off the ground and running. I’ve had lots of help, so it’s not ALL me, but we’ve paired up some folks and have a list of more to get with someone. Super exciting. I am passionate about the disciple/mentor relationship because it has been instrumental in making me who I am.

Favorite Recent Purchase: Hmm…nothing is coming to mind.

Current Excitement: Throwing a shower for one of my best friends this weekend!

Current Dilemma: Figuring out a way to run more often and like it.
